Ferrari Dino 308 GT4 for Sale

For sale is a great driving, beautifully painted, virtually rust free Ferrari. Its not perfect but if you want a car that has been recently gone through, this is the one.

I won’t go on and on about GT4’s as you are looking for this car because you know it is the best Ferrari value available when considering performance (believed to have euro cams), handling, beauty (yes not everyone agrees) and practicality. And it’s at an amazing price point. You might even like (like I do) the looks and that you can put an adult or a few kids in the back seat.

I will do my best to give you everything you need to know to buy this car and be happy and informed with the purchase. I have a perfect 100% rating over the last 9 years on eBay and intend to keep it that way. I have included not only my input but that of the mechanic who has worked extensively on this car.

This car needed TLC (work!) when I bought it and I intended to get it done and do it right. That means you get the benefit of a car the most everything is complete as you will see in the long list of work that has been done and its current condition. There are still a few items I would do and I have listed those as well.

The fact of the matter is that this car has been gone through with almost $25,000 having been spent within the last nine months. All of this work is documented. Yes, belts, seals, etc (see list). A compression test was done after this work and all cylinders were 180 to 185. The car has recently (this last month) had a complete suspension package (Mega Package) from T. Rutlands ($4,000 in parts alone)(includes 4 new Konis) installed so everything that was 30 years old is now new. Additionally a rebuilt steering rack and a carburetor rebuild for one of the carbs that has been troublesome. During a previous inspection some non-structural rust was found in the wheel wells. This has been address and repaired.

In addition, prior to my purchase and additional 30k of previous work is covered by receipts that are available

Currently the car does not pass California smog.

Here is my best description of the current condition of the car:

CONDITION

Paint
– Excellent although not perfect. I would judge the paint better than most all GT4’s I have seen. It has no rust bubbles I have found. I am constantly been asked about who did the paint work, its brilliant and I had a two day color sanding by a Pebble Beach detailer. It does have a couple of slight imperfections, one in back deck (looks like a drip) and a few minor marks.

Interior
– Reupholstered a few years ago, Seat front and back, most of the carpet, dash, console and door panels.
Mechanical
– See listing below
Performance
– Car accelerates extremely well, no smoke at start up or acceleration and handles like a GT4 should…awesome
– My mechanic believes that this engine is equipped with early hotter cams. As is noted below, the car was sold as a euro although I know it’s not but it does seem to have the euro cams
History
– Car was sold on eBay as a euro car but clearly isn’t other than it seems to have euro cams. This car was a Florida car and at one point was stolen and the vin has been re-stamped. ALL of the paperwork regarding this incident is with the car and it has no registration problems but it clearly has this history (I wasn’t notified when I bought it but I want you to be informed?). It doesn’t affect anything other than that is its history. The car has been in California for the last few years and has a California Title
-Has original vin plate on steering column #14438. I am not sure why they didn’t use that when it was restamped the vin but I believe you could get the title changed back to the original vin depending on the state.
Needs
– Some of the gauges glass are not crystal clear
– Sunroof interior handle bezel needs replacement
– Headliner needs tightening but is not torn
– One piece of carpet needs replacing in trunk
- right side window winder
-rhesostat
-fan switch

1978 Ferrari Dino 308GT4 -

Customer’s car recently received a major service, along with other misc. work - see summary or individual work orders. Requested to perform necessary mechanical work to return car to original specs, appearance and performance. Replaced missing original components as needed, detailed the engine compartment. The car now runs very well, the engine is strong with even compression, spark plugs burn cleanly, no significant issues with the transaxle, suspension, brakes, steering, or other systems.

This is a very nice solid 308GT4, great for an owner interested in driving and using the car.

Recommendations:

Re place (or rebuild) right side window lift motors, replace window channels, fit, adjust, lubricate as needed to operate correctly. Replace fan switch and Rheostat for dash

I’m available to answer potential buyer questions – hopefully can continue to maintain this car.

Sincerely,

Larry Buskirk
